Tom Tarr, Director of Client Development, moved to the desert in early 2017 to accept this newly developed position at Desert AIDS Project. Tom’s role is to lead efforts that will support retention and acquisition of clients as the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) continues to grow and change in meeting the needs of Palm Springs and the greater Coachella Valley.
His marketing career is grounded by more than 25 years of experience working in, and with a variety of businesses and not-for-profit organizations, including a number of well-known American brands: Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Whirlpool, Midas, Sears, as well as the American Osteopathic Association and the American Dental Hygienists Association.
His work for Blue Cross and Blue Shield across the country helped the leading national health insurer adapt its marketing and advocacy strategies to improve its member engagement and adapt its programs as the healthcare industry worked to comply with the Affordable Care Act.
Tom has leveraged his private sector experience to bring new strategies to his work in a variety of healthcare settings—from large systems providing primary, specialty and long-term care to physician practice groups and community organizations. His efforts have worked to educate patients and encourage responsible self-care, improving treatment compliance and helping reduce the cost of care.
