Jill Gover, Ph.D.

Jill Gover, Ph.D.

Behavioral Health Manager

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Working together with her patients, Dr. Gover establishes goals for therapy and identifies the steps needed to achieve those goals. Her patients will have clear and realistic expectations of what they can accomplish in therapy. And as trust deepens, Dr. Gover invites patients to connect with her on a more intimate level.

With curiosity, and without judgment, she draws her patients into a collaborative approach to investigate the evidence and efficacy of particular thought patterns, and helps patients reconstruct a new narrative of self-talk that improves their quality of life. Dr. Gover believes that the story we tell ourselves can often be distorted and, because of that, we experience unnecessary emotional distress. As a cognitive behavioral therapist, she's interested in exploring the mistaken beliefs, unhelpful rules we live by, and faulty thinking that causes problems in our lives.

Prior to joining DAP in 2019, Dr. Gover worked for many years as the Mental Health Director at the Scott Hines Mental Health Clinic @ The Center where she developed, established, and supervised outpatient mental health services. In addition to her many other responsibilities at The Center, she provided individual, couples, family, and group therapy for the LGBT community. Dr. Gover has also provided psychological services to students on campus at College of the Desert; been the Director of Mental Health Services, Clinical Psychologist for the Long Valley Health Center in Laytonville, California; and has worked at numerous other organizations and in private practice.

Dr. Gover is passionate about social and environmental justice advocacy and LGBT political activism and she has volunteered with various political causes and campaigns such as the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Human Rights Campaign, and Equality California.

"I establish a therapeutic alliance in therapy where patients know they will be heard without judgment. I create a safe place for them to learn and practice the tools and skills they need in order to make the changes they want to make in their life."
