Bruce Weiss joined Desert AIDS Project in April 2016 accepting the newly created position, Director of Community Health. Bruce brings 22 years of experience working in various capacities for AIDS service, health care and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender-focused organizations. As the Director of Community Health, he participates in the development of, oversees and manages all community health-related education, prevention, and early intervention and advocacy programs.
Bruce earned his Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania in 1994, following up with graduate certificates in nonprofit management from Georgetown University and health care management from the UCLA Anderson School. Prior to starting with D.A.P., Bruce served as Director of Community Health at Whitman-Walker Health, Washington D.C., as well as Director of Prevention and Education Programs and then Deputy Director at the Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS in Phoenix, Arizona. He also served as Executive Director of the Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League (SMYAL) in Washington, DC, a direct service organization focused on LGBT youth.
