While practicing traditional, hands-on manipulation as the core of his chiropractic approach, Dr. Cox’s philosophy in treating patients of all ages is to “use what works for the individual.” That means he also employs a number of other treatment techniques, such as drop table, activator, flexion/distraction, and soft tissue manipulation – the latter being a “diversified adjusting” method.
Receiving his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) in 2007, he spent eight years in private practice in Laguna Beach before moving to Palm Springs with his husband, Eric, in October 2015. After majoring in Communication Studies at California State University, Dr. Cox became a Certified Massage Therapist in 2001 and spent the next seven years in that capacity in a chiropractic office before deciding to get his D.C. degree.
Dr. Cox is also a clinician, quality assurance chair, and lecturer for SCU – his alma mater – in Whittier. Among other duties, he supervises interns in their treatment of both campus and public patients while also lecturing on skills review, clinic protocols, and health laws.
As a strong believer in serving others, Dr. Cox has participated in various committees and organizations over many years, including Rotary and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In addition, for six, non-consecutive years between 2006 to 2016, Dr. Cox has been a member of the “SCU Chiro Team” for the annual AIDS/LifeCycle Ride to end AIDS biking marathon.
After touring D.A.P. and learning that chiropractic was not currently available, Dr. Jim Cox agreed to begin offering his chiropractic services at the clinic Wednesdays and Fridays from 8am-5pm. Additional hours and days of chiropractic service will be evaluated on an ongoing basis.
