Revivals to benefit Mama’s Kitchen, San Diego LGBT Community Center, Being Alive
Posted February 7th, 2011 – Press Releases
When Revivals opens its Hillcrest location at 1644 University in San Diego on Wednesday, February 9th Desert AIDS Project aims to benefit local nonprofit organizations serving those living with, affected by, or at-risk for HIV/AIDS.
“Although we’re based in Palm Springs, we know that AIDS continues to affect people everywhere,” said David Brinkman, CEO of Desert AIDS Project. “Thirty years later, this is an epidemic that continues to rage, in San Diego just as it does nationally and worldwide. We so respect the social services and HIV prevention efforts that Mama’s Kitchen, the San Diego LGBT Community Center, and Being Alive offer. We felt it was important to do what we could to help through our new Revivals store.”
After meeting with the chief executives of the three organizations, Brinkman determined that Revivals can provide an annual donation from the proceeds of the new Hillcrest store location, as well as vouchers throughout the year for some of the organizations’ clients. Each month, the store will provide a quantity of $10 vouchers, redeemable for merchandise at Revivals in Hillcrest, to be distributed however the organizations deem most suitable to meet the needs of their clients.
“We serve a population that is primarily low-income at Desert AIDS Project and I’m sure it’s not so different with clients of the organizations we want to help benefit,” said Brinkman. “If these Revivals vouchers can help their clients to pick up a pair of jeans or a coffeepot, we’ll feel like we’ve done a little bit to help.”
Details about how D.A.P. can also benefit these organizations with a direct financial contribution are still being worked out but Brinkman stressed, “We want to be a good neighbor that helps to make San Diego a better place to live.”
Desert AIDS Project serves people living with HIV and AIDS through a comprehensive network of support, including medical care, case management, and social services. D.A.P. also offers free and confidential HIV testing at a number of locations in the desert cities of the greater Palm Springs area.
