Lorna Luft doubles-up for Desert AIDS Project on Saturday, April 2: Tour guide in the morning, Celebrity Doodles in the evening

Posted March 29th, 2011 –

Close on the heels of her dynamic performance at the 2011 Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards gala, Lorna Luft will continue to support one of her favorite local organizations by giving a tour of Desert AIDS Project at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 2 before joining the second annual Celebrity Doodles fundraiser for D.A.P. at the historic O’Donnell House from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.

Before singing “Cockeyed Optimist” at the 17th annual gala, sponsored by Integrated Wealth Management, which grossed more than $1.35 million for D.A.P., Ms. Luft told the audience, “I’ve toured Desert AIDS Project and witnessed incredible care and compassion for men, women, and children. Especially touching was how much heart I saw in the eyes of the staff and volunteers. It is something you must all experience for yourselves. It will feed your soul. ”

Many have already taken Luft up on her offer to play tour guide at D.A.P. If you’d like to join her, please call 760-323-2118 to RSVP.

Leading the tour with her will be David Brinkman, CEO of Desert AIDS Project. “While we appreciate the support of all the celebrities who lend their star power to our Steve Chase galas, those who live locally – like Lorna Luft and Barry Manilow – have really helped us spread the word that AIDS is not over,” said Brinkman. “They were both at last year’s Celebrity Doodles. Events like these are a fun way to help us maintain free and confidential HIV testing, while also funding essential client services.”

Hosted by TV personality and comedian Scott Nevins – who has supported D.A.P. at a number of previous events – the Celebrity Doodles fun will begin on Friday, April 1 with a VIP reception from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at ASI at 668 N. Palm Canyon.

Those wishing to mingle a bit more with the stars of stage and screen – or just pick up a doodle or two by Barry Manilow, Suzanne Somers, Lily Tomlin, or a variety of others – will also want to be at the Saturday, April 2 party at the O’Donnell House. Valet service will be available in the back corner of the north parking lot of the Palm Springs Art Museum.
