Father Andrew Green leaves D.A.P. Board, Ted Briggs and Steve Winters join

Father Andrew Green, pastor of St. Paul in the Desert Episcopal Church in Palm Springs, who has served on the Board of Directors for Desert AIDS Project since 1993 – beginning less than a decade after D.A.P. was founded in 1984 – made the difficult decision to leave that leadership position.
“Although change is the nature of volunteer boards, this is a departure that we all feel deeply,” said David Brinkman, CEO of Desert AIDS Project. “During his long tenure with us, Andrew has been well-loved and respected not only by his fellow board members but also by clients, staff, and donors throughout the years. His length of service has made him a sort of unofficial historian for us and we hope that he will always continue to be involved with D.A.P. in other ways.”
During his time with Desert AIDS Project, Green has walked in every Palm Springs AIDS Walk since its start in 1988, as well as chairing both the governance and client committees. Along with a variety of other community leaders and D.A.P. clients, Green also appeared in the “AIDS is not over” public service campaign currently running on local TV stations. The public service announcement recently received the coveted Mosaic Award during the March 11, 2011 ADDY Awards for its multi-cultural diversity.
“Working with the clients, staff and board to meet the needs of people with HIV/AIDS has been my passion and an important part of my ministry,” said Green. “Although it’s hard to let go, I can do it because the staff and board at D.A.P. are excellent. I know that our clients will continue to see improved health, quality of life, and longevity as a result of their work.” As Green departs, Desert AIDS Project welcomes Ted Briggs and Stephen Winters as new board members.
With a BS from the University of Southern California and an MBA from Tulane University, Briggs became a Certified Public Accountant before leaving the corporate world more than 20 years ago to become a consultant. As a nationally recognized leader in sales and marketing management and compensation, he has been a donor to and supporter of D.A.P. for many years.
Also a long-time donor-supporter of D.A.P., Winters is a retired corporate attorney who oversaw an annual operating budget of more than $150 million and a staff of more than 250 professionals. In addition to making significant financial contributions to and raising funds for the arts and LGBT causes, Steve has served as a board member of AIDS Pastoral Care Network in Chicago.
“During my time at D.A.P., I have found all of our board members to be incredibly dedicated and hard-working. Their complete commitment to our missions of HIV/AIDS care, prevention, and advocacy reinvigorates me every day,” said Brinkman.
Desert AIDS Project is the organization in our community where people living with HIV and AIDS can receive comprehensive support, including medical care, case management, and social services.
