"Queen of the Quakes" to speak to D.A.P. donors
(PALM SPRINGS, CA – May 1, 2009)
Almost everyone in Southern California who has watched TV following any significant earthquake in the past few years has seen Dr. Lucy Jones, Seismologist with the U.S. Geological Survey, calmly answering questions from the press about what just happened.
But on Wednesday, May 13, 100 WOMEN – major donors to Desert AIDS Project – will be bringing Dr. Lucy to you, up-close-and-personal from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Spencer’s Restaurant. As Chief Scientist of the USGS Multi-Hazards Demonstration Project for Southern California, Dr. Jones is developing a new program “to integrate hazards science in urban areas with economic analysis and emergency response to increase community resiliency to natural disasters.”
Loosely translated: how do we best cope when “the big one” hits us? If Dr. Lucy’s voice and professional manner are not soothing enough, free cocktails will be offered.
Dr. Jones is the first in a continuing speaker series, brought to you as a community service by 100 WOMEN, D.A.P.’s major donor program dedicated to improving prevention education and healthcare services for women and children affected by or at-risk for HIV and AIDS.
Desert AIDS Project is the organization in our community where people living with HIV and AIDS can receive comprehensive support, including medical care, case management, and social services. D.A.P. also offers confidential HIV testing at a number of locations and widespread education and prevention services for schools, civic organizations, businesses, churches, and health organizations throughout the communities it serves.
