(PALM SPRINGS, CA – July 23, 2008)
Integrated Wealth Management has gifted $150,000 to Desert AIDS Project (D.A.P.) as Presenting Sponsor of its 15th annual Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards gala, in commemoration of D.A.P.’s silver anniversary of service.
Jim Casey, president of Integrated Wealth Management, co-chairs the 2009 Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards along with local fundraising star Barbara Keller. “Barbara and I are both honored to help out an organization that has already done so much good for men, women, and children infected with or affected by HIV and AIDS,” said Casey. “Desert AIDS Project is a world-class organization that’s already made a huge difference in thousands of people’s lives. We want to help carry it into its next quarter-century of service with the financial support it needs and so richly deserves.”
The 2009 Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards gala will begin at 5:30 PM on Saturday, February 21 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Tickets to this largest, annual black tie event of the Coachella Valley social season are available by calling J.P. Allen at 760.323.2118, ext. 266
To mark D.A.P.’s 25-year milestone of service, special silver anniversary awards will be presented to recognize those in the community who have donated time, energy, and tireless commitment to the HIV/AIDS fight.
The Silver Anniversary Community Service Award will be presented to Palm Springs resident and consummate entertainer Barry Manilow for his many contributions to the Coachella Valley community and beyond. His Manilow Fund for Health and Hope continues to be a major sponsor of AIDS Walks in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The Fund also sets a high bar for philanthropy by continuing to fill needs within the community from donations of money to provide instruments to valley schools’ musical departments to raising money to help homeless youth and those afflicted with disease.
Anthony Fauci, M.D. will be honored with the Silver Anniversary Science and Medicine Award. Dr. Fauci is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Earlier this year, President Bush presented Fauci with the Presidential Medal of Freedom – the U.S.’s highest civil award – at a White House ceremony. Dr. Fauci has made seminal contributions to the understanding of how the AIDS virus destroys the body's defenses leading to its susceptibility to deadly infections. He also has delineated the mechanisms of induction of HIV expression by endogenous cytokines. Furthermore, he has been instrumental in developing highly-effective strategies for the therapy of patients with this serious disease, as well as for a vaccine to prevent HIV infection. He continues to devote much of his research time to identifying the nature of the immunopathogenic mechanisms of HIV infection and the scope of the body's immune responses to the AIDS retrovirus.
Recipients of two other Silver Anniversary Awards, as well as award presenters and entertainers have yet to be announced.
