AIDS PROJECT APPOINTS
DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION, PREVENTION AND TESTING
(PALM SPRINGS, CA – November 30, 2006)
Arturo J. Hernandez has been appointed Director
of Education, Prevention and Testing at Desert
AIDS Project. He will join the agency on Monday,
December 4.
In his position at Desert AIDS Project, Hernandez
will direct a staff of six community educators
and outreach workers who, with Positive Speakers,
present prevention programs to schools, prisons,
substance abuse programs, juvenile hall detention
facilities, domestic violence shelters, youth
pregnancy programs and faith communities. They
also staff education booths at local health fairs
and other public events.
Hernandez currently is Director of Capacity Building/Technical
Assistance at Bienestar, an organization that
provides education, prevention, advocacy and social
services to the Latino community. Services include
free, confidential HIV testing, counseling and
referral. In his position at Bienestar, Hernandez
provides community based organizations with trainings
in building their capacity to create and/or enhance
HIV/AIDS Prevention and CARE programs and services.
His previous experience includes Director of Programs
and Health Programs Coordinator at Clinicas de
Salud del Pueblo, Inc. in Brawley; Administrative
Analyst with the Imperial County Health Department;
Senior Program Coordinator with Family Health
Centers of San Diego; and Health Education Coordinator
for Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District. Hernandez’
education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Public
Administration from San Diego State University
and certifications in healthcare leadership and
organization.
Desert AIDS Project at the Greenburg-Peet Family
Center is the organization in our community where
people living with HIV and AIDS can receive comprehensive
services to help manage HIV disease. D.A.P. offers
primary medical care through its Wells Fargo HIV
Health Center. The Project provides widespread
education and prevention services for schools,
civic organizations, businesses, churches and
health organizations throughout the communities
it serves. Anonymous HIV testing is also provided.
