Mental Health Counseling - D.A.P.'s Mental Health Program strives to assist clients in maintaining good mental health by providing emotional support, guidance, therapy, and direction to those with HIV, their significant others, and their family members. Counseling is provided by a full-time, licensed psychotherapist, in individual and group settings.
Substance Abuse Counseling - D.A.P. targets those individuals who are at high risk of contracting HIV through substance or alcohol use in addition to people living with HIV/AIDS who are battling addiction. The goal of this program is to encourage individuals to maintain behaviors that reduce the use of substances, encourage testing for HIV, and assist those who seek help with recovery. Counseling to individuals and groups is conducted by CADC- certified counselors.
Support Groups-Desert AIDS Project is proud to house nine support groups ranging from various topics like sexual wellness to grief & loss support to our bilingual Spanish group. These groups help clients meet others whom they can talk to about these topics and dealing with HIV. Click here to view our entire support groups and peer-led groups schedule.
Wellness Program - The Wellness Program assists clients who are in an improved state of health due to the new medications and who must rethink their present and future. Some parts of this program include meditation groups, nutrition counseling, smoking cessation, and adherence strategies to drug therapies, along with recreational activities such as sewing classes, Reflexology, Reiki Touch, and yoga classes. Many of these activities are housed in our Community Center and Community Services Wing. See a comprehensive schedule of classes here.
